What is Mental Health First Aid?
First Aid is initial assistance given to an injured person before medical treatment can be obtained. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the initial assistance given to someone experiencing a mental health problem before professional assistance is obtained.
75% of people who access support services improve notably.
A workplace benefits from people who are trained as MHFA Officers
It is up to us to take responsibility to recognise the symptoms of those conflicted with mental health issues and understand what we can do to help and know we can be of assistance. Prompt assistance is the key to supporting those in distress and assist in their recovery.
Distinctive Training Services facilitators are fully trained and accredited by MHFA Australia to conduct Mental Health First Aid training
MHFA Training Course by Distinctive Training Services
Distinctive Training Services is accredited to conduct Standard Mental Health First Aid and Youth Mental Health First Aid training.
We cover the types of mental health crises and their symptoms, how to identify and assist the person, how to offer initial assistance to someone suffering a mental health episode and general guidance to what works and how to best be of assistance.
This is First Aid, you are being trained how to help them get help, you will not be acting in a professional help capacity, but learning how to assist and support someone in getting professional help.
The 2-day workshop is evidence-based and interactive. Depending if you are working with or looking to assist adults as a MH First Aider book in to the Standard Mental Health First Aid training or if youth are your desired group you wish to assist then you will require the Youth Mental Health First Aid training.

SA Mental Health Commission
Commissioner Chris Burns
SA Mental Health Commission
45% of Australians will experience a diagnosable mental illness at some point in their life. That means that at some point in their life, possibly multiple times, 55% of Australians will be impacted by and probably care for someone experiencing a diagnosable mental illness.
With one in five Australians experiencing a common mental illness every year, a Mental Health First Aid course provides participants with the confidence and empowers them with the knowledge to know how to properly support someone who may be experiencing mental ill-health.
Mental health first aid is as important as physical first aid. Be it in the home, the workplace or the community; each and every one of us should strive to better understand mental fitness in order that we can grow our mental wealth as a nation.
